Seychelles

To see and do

Praslin is proud host to one of Seychelles’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the fabulous Vallée de Mai. Perhaps it has something to do with the centuries-old rumor that this was the paradise lost of Adam and you-know-who, perhaps not. Rumor aside, this tiny paradise isle has much that no other earthly abode may claim. There’s the legend Coco-de-Mer, the world's heaviest nut growing high on ancient palms in a primeval forest, and six other extraordinary palm species. Then there are the rare pandans or screwpines, broad-leaved trees, birds, animals, insects, and much more. A close surveillance of local species in their natural habitat is indeed an enriching exposure for children and adults alike.

You can completely navigate its 10km by 3.7km depth and breadth by car in two leisurely sightseeing hours.

Oh its beaches! Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette are on the planet’s beach blockbuster top-10 list. Other notables, among many: Anse Kerlan and Anse Volbert. Praslin beaches stretch longer and wider than those on Mahé, and are spectacular swimming and snorkeling sites.

The cute port south of Praslin is the favorite ferry excursion point to neighboring islands like La Digue, Aride, Chauve Souris, Curieuse, Félicité, Grande Soeur, Ile Cocos , La Digue, Mahé, St. Pierre. Cousine excursions may be limited as its nature reserve is very seriously protected.

Most of the island’s citizens reside in its two villages, Baie Ste. Anne in the east and Grand Anse village in the south—a round-trip circuit to both could be inspiring, edifying or just downright pleasurable…and, easy.
Cafe d’Art, Christine Harter’s gallery on Praslin, Cote d’Or, is a superb combination of art exhibits and restaurant set against a splendid backdrop of ocean.

For golfers, Praslin has the only 18-hole golf course in all of the Seychelles—another claim to fame! Green fees do not apply to guests. Non–residents are welcome.
