Getting Around

The areas and islands are small and close to each other. Thus makes moving around Seychelles easy, with a good network of air and sea transportation operating out of the main island Mahé. But still in all, nothing beats the simplest way to enjoy the inland and coastal sights—on a bicycle and on foot. Every island affords these delights, and some islands can be covered in a few hours, after a few thousand calories, and over just a few buckets of sweat.

Air

Air Seychelles provides an efficient network of services from Mahé to Alphonse, Bird, Denis, Desroches Island, Frégate and Praslin. Or, the chopper choice for more exclusive and expensive transfers. (www.helicopterseychelles.com)

Taxi

You have about 300 taxis to choose from in Mahé and Praslin; while in La Digue much less. Between 10:00PM till 6:00AM, taxis in Praslin add a surcharge.

Bus

SPTC buses run daily around Mahé and Praslin from 5:20AM till 9:30PM. There are a number of 18-seater coaches available for airport transfers and excursions. http://www.seychelles.travel/en/things_to_do/buses.php.

Sea

Privately owned boats offer regular connections between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, and chartered trips to the other islands.

Car

Traffic is on the left, speed limit 65kph on main thoroughfares, 40kph in built-up areas. No worries, as paved roads are only on La Digue, Mahé and Praslin; elsewhere, rough roads won’t allow much faster speed anyway. Take note: mountainous Mahé has narrow, winding roads without safety barriers. In Mahé, many cars and mini mokes are available to rent; in Praslin, just a few. So, make advance reservations, especially during peak season. Minimum driving age is 21 years old; you may use your own valid driver’s license up to three months. http://www.seychelles.travel/en/things_to_do/car_hire.php.
