Shopping

Shopaholic or not, you will love Mallorca shopping—from high-browed name-brand shops to quaint haggle-friendly joints. To name drop a few: Avinguda Jaume III, the side streets of Bonire, Sta. Maria del Sepulcro, and Sant Marty.

Worth waiting for are the old-world flea markets on Saturday mornings at Palma at the start of the "Avenidas" (streets) and in Campos and on Sunday mornings at Binissalem, Consell, Inca and Alcudia.

Smaller villages give the shopper a closeup of their lifestyle at their markets. Local produce, hand-made Mallorcan arts, pottery, leather goods, dairy products, farm animals like cows, horses, sheep, hens, ducks, even kittens! There’s plenty to learn from observing the locals bartering. Markets usually open at 8am, but if you’re not for the jostling and heat of human traffic, be an early bird. Then, after the hunt and sightseeing, proceed to good eats at the cellar restaurants or taverns around the market square.

The larger shops in Mallorca usually open from 9AM to 9PM especially tourist hotspots. Don’t forget their siesta! That’s dead zone from 2:00 to 5:00pm.

The Balearic islands are known for electronic bargains like cameras and gizmos, with low tax rates as bonus.
