Languages

Castilian Spanish is the accepted official vernacular throughout most of Spain. The autonomous communities have their own official languages: Catalonia (Catalonian), Galicia (Galician), Valencia (Valenciano )and Basque Country (Vasco); plus the other linguistic enclaves in the Spanish Peninsula: Bable in Asturias and the linguistic diversity in Aragón; Gascón in the Valley of Arán and in the Catalonian Pyrenees; Portuguese close to the Portugal border, the Castilla-León and Extremadura areas.

English is also widely taught and understood (it is the official language of Gibraltar, where Andalusian Spanish is spoken at home), as is French. To a lesser degree, German and Italian are spoken as well.
