Things To Do
One vacation won’t suffice to check everything in your Ubud to-do list. Natural attractions include almost neon rice terraces, high and mighty active volcanoes, rivers bursting with energy, deep ravines, sacred caves, and lush tropical forests full of exotic wildlife.
Rafting and kayaking
Because it is a meeting place of several rivers, river adventures are aplenty especially from December to April when the waters are raging. Call Sobek, Sayan, west of Ubud (0361)287059. For $80 a head you enjoy a 2-hour session with professional guides, all equipment, lunch and hotel transport. Also, Bali Adventure Tours (0361)721480 at Taro, north of Ubud. Both handle Class 2 to 4 white water.
Victor Mason’s Bali Bird Walks

Bali Sunrise 2001 (0818 552669) located on Jl.Raya Sanginggan are special treks up Gunung Batur or Gunung Agung to welcome the sunrise. From $45-$100 a per head.

Cycling
Cycling tours are guided mountain bike cruising through the quiet village routes, traversing through the Monkey Forest at Sangeh, Gunung Batur and Gunung Batukaru. Call Ary’s Business & Travel Service (0361)973130 or Bali Budaya Tours (0361)975557, Bali Adventure Tours & Sobek. For around $40, you’ll have lunch too!
Motorbike Tours
Try exploring Ubud by motorbike, one of the true pleasures of a Bali sojourn. The offers are aplenty.

Hikes and Treks
Or, a meditative trek at dawn through the rice paddies, or learning batik painting from a local artist. Even just a hike around the magic little town, alive with visual feasts, through soft wind breathing under tree-covered pathways leading to other like villages can be exhilarating.
Ubud is teeming with Art museums.

Monkey Forest Road, Padangtegal Ubud, a most intriguing experience, this will take you through a fascinating thick banyan forest cover of many other exotic flora and fauna that you will not notice at all because of the million aggressive monkeys all savvy to and forever hungry for that loot you’re carrying (and you better have some). Be warned, they may react violently if denied, so be close to the many guards that police these rowdy beings.
