Pemba - Getting There

The only sensible way to visit Pemba is with a scheduled charter flight, available daily mornings and afternoons. There are some sea ferries that operate from Zanzibar to Pemba but they are slow, and there is no regular guaranteed schedule.

Pemba is accessed via most airports in East Africa via Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam with direct local flights on several internal charter airlines that operate schedule flights on smaller aircraft.

The most frequent route is Zanzibar – Pemba. This is now serviced by at least these airlines.

• Zanair. 2 x Daily.

• Dar es salaam - Pemba is also serviced daily, mostly via Zanzibar.

• Tanga – Pemba is currently operated by Coastal Air only. Daily afternoon return flight connecting with Zaznzibar and Dar.

Average cost 80.00$ each way.

Sea ferry service from Zanzibar

Definitely the cheapest way to travel between the islands is by ferry. Three times a week, the trusty Serengeti, operates between Zanzibar and Pemba . Departs Zanzibar 10pm, and arrives 06am cost about 10$ so don't expect much. It arrives in the southern port of Mkoani, and from there call us! 3 hours later we will see you, we don't recommend it.
