Mighty baobab bushland, a lonely sandy beach and crystal clear waters provide the setting for Mbuna Bay Retreat, the new eco- lodge on the remote Mozambique side of lake Malawi.

Eight thatched guest houses have been built and furnished by members of the nearby Nkholongue village with mainly local materials such as wood, bamboo, grass, clay and stones.

From the verandah of the wooden cottages right at the beach guests enjoy splendid views over the lake whereas the brick bungalows are surrounded by authentic bushland. All houses are carefully equipped with luxurious beds, spacious mosquito nets and lovely bathrooms. A large organic farm provides the ingredients for a creative international cuisine.

Electricity and hot water are supplied 24 hours by large solar systems.

The lodge offers activities for every taste: Swimming and snorkelling in „God’s Aquarium“, surrounded by mbunas (cichlids) of all shapes and colours, kayaking, canoeing, bushwalking, mountain hiking, bird watching, trips to the world famous N’nosi Reef or just enjoying a relaxing day at the beach.

Mbuna Bay through its Nkholongue Development Initiative (NDI) is supporting the local community through various projects in the areas of health, education, nutrition and sanitation.
