Chinese travel industry reopens just in time for the May Day Holiday
Travel World China | Date锛2020-5-6

Just two days before the May Day holiday, on April 29, Beijing announced that from April 30, the public health emergency level will be reduced from first level to second level, and people who travel to and return to Beijing from low-risk areas in China, no longer required to stay at home for 14 days in isolation.

According to data from Qunar.com, within half an hour after the policy was issued, the number of air ticket searches increased rapidly. The number of air tickets departing from Beijing skyrocketed 15 times from the previous period, and the search volume of other travel products such as vacations and hotels also tripled.

Although there are 5 days for the May Day holiday this year, affected by the epidemic, people who cannot go out for a long time and are "suffocated" at home try to carefully test the boundaries of outbound travel.

Safety is still the most important. Most people ’s travel radius is still dominated by self-driving and surrounding regions. Although the "pent up release tourism" that was expected in the past has not been fully realized so quickly, domestic air tickets, hotels, homestays, attractions ... are all recovering step by step.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China released the news on May 3: The first three days of the Labor Day holiday, China received a total of 84.997 million domestic tourists and realized domestic tourism revenue of about 35.06 billion yuan (approx. 5 billion US dollars).

In order to boost the consumption of cultural tourism, many "big moves" have been introduced in various places. For example, Beijing issued a total of 50 million yuan of cash vouchers on May 2 to stimulate citizens ’cultural consumption, which covers seven fields such as books, audio and video, cultural performances, tourism, education and entertainment.

In Guizhou, on May 3, Huangguoshu, Fanjing Mountain, Zhijin Cave and other key tourist attractions all reached the maximum control flow of the day. There are 26,200 passengers in and out of Guizhou by air; 442 passenger trains at railway entry and exit stations have 168,900 passengers.

In Guangdong, according to preliminary estimates, as of 16:00 on May 3, the 100 key scenic spots under monitoring received a total of 628,000 tourists; the 14 key areas of the Guyi Road under monitoring received a total of 226,000 tourists. 306 of the 426 A-level scenic spots in the province have been reopened, accounting for about 70%.

However, "security" is still the most important consideration for people's current travel. Although the danger level of the epidemic is gradually decreasing, at a press conference on the afternoon of April 29, Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the Beijing Center for Disease Control, said that under the normalized prevention and control mechanism, citizens should consciously guard personal protection, maintain good hygiene and health habits for a long time, and insist on wearing masks scientifically, carry masks with you, and choose appropriate masks according to different crowds.
At the same time, Chen Bei, deputy secretary general of the Beijing Municipal Government, also announced that in terms of current situation, the risks of overseas imports and local rebound cases should not be underestimated, and the prevention and control tasks are still serious.

It can be seen from the data of the Ministry of Transport that although people are interested in traveling, psychological barriers such as worries and concerns about the epidemic still exist. Although peripheral tourism is gradually recovering, most of the long-distance and outbound tourism are still in a state of non-movement, and "pent up release tourism" is still struggling to climb.
