STATEMENT ON GIKOMBA BLAST
 
Following the incident that involved two blasts leading to the unfortunate loss of lives this afternoon, at Nairobi's Gikomba area, on the eastern outskjrts of the city, the Ministry of East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism wishes to state the following:
 
>>We are saddened by the loss of life of innocent Kenyans and our heartfelt condolences go to the families of those who have lost their lives in this unfortunate event
 
 
>>Gikomba is a well-known second hand market in the Eastem part of Nairobi City, a commercial area not visited by tourists
 
 
>>The govemment and the private sector have forged a strong partnership to address a wide range of issues including safety and security, product improvement, enhanced infrastructure to ensure unparalleled enjoyment of memorable experiences for all the tourists and visitors to the country
 
 
>>The factors that make Kenya a preferred tourist destination remain. The country boasts of authentic safari and pristine beaches coupled with other products like culture, birding, adventure, mountain climbing among others
 
The warmth and the friendly nature of the Kenyan people is renowned globally and Kenya remains home to key intemational meetings and institutions.
 
Mrs. Phyllis Kandie, The Cabinet Secretary in charge of the Ministry East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism says that 'Kenya remains safe and open for business. It is our number one priority to ensure that the country leverages fully on our rich tourism product by ensuring that all our visitors are not only safe but actually feel at home while in the country. We will work tirelessly with the private sector and our foreign partners to ensure that Kenya remains a recognized commercial hub in Africa."
