Chinese tourists´ overseas expenditure reached USD 102 billion in 2012

The research of WTO revealed that China led the rank of outbound tourists' expenditure in 2012 with USD 102 billion. The number of Chinese outbound tourists increased from 10 million in 2000 to 83 million in 2012. Meanwhile, overseas expenditure also increased by 8 times.

According to the Chinese Luxury Traveler 2013, France and the US are the most popular international travel destinations among Chinese luxury consumers. These destinations are followed by Singapore, Switzerland, Britain and Italy. A small number of these travelers each spent over USD 5,000 on luxury goods every single trip.

Global Refund released a report that Chinese travelers at present purchase a quarter of all duty free goods globally. There are approximately 2.8 million dollar Millionaires in China today, and European countries are in fierce competition to attract these Chinese travelers. France and Germany, for example, jointly set up a visa center in Beijing last October to simplify and speed up the Schengen Area Visa process.
